Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a method to encrypt and decrypt data sent over
networks. It replaces the older Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. It is
commonly used to secure web browsing (HTTPS), but it can also be used on other
things, like the telnet protocol that MUDs use.
Using it, your communication with the game would be encrypted in such a way that
provides privacy and data integrity. Without it, your password and other data
are transferred in plain text on the internet, vulnerable to monitoring. |
